Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi refers to the popular wireless networking technology which uses radio waves to provide high-speed internet and network connections. Wi-Fi Alliance is the organisation that owns the Wi-Fi ( registered trademark ). The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as any " wireless local area network ( WLAN ) products that are based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' ( IEEE ) 802.11 standards. "

Wi-Fi is getting popular as it is supported by many applications and devices including video games consoles, home networks, PDA, mobile phones, major operating systems, and other types of consumer electronics. Any of the products that are tested and approved as "Wi-Fi Certified" (a registered trademark) by the Wi-Fi Alliance can share information even though they are from different manufactures. For example, a user with a Wi-Fi Certified product can use any brand of access point with any other brand of client hardware that also is also "Wi-Fi Certified" by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Products that pass this certification are required to carry an identifying seal on their packaging that states "Wi-Fi Certified" and indicates the radio frequency band used ( like 2.5GHz for 802.11b,  802.11g, or 802.11n, and 5GHz for 802.11a).

Due to its easy of use adn flexibility Wi-Fi is used widely these days. It is comfortable to use and quick to install, so people are replacing their old wired LANs with Wi-Fi. With Wi-Fi you can move your machine around without loosing the internet connection. Working on a laptop and other portable devices you can work any where, where you can find W--Fi signal. So most the the places like hospitals, airpots and even resturants are giving Wi-Fi for free to their costumers. Wi-Fi is a great aid to the organisations and offices who carry out their transations and day to day work as well as administation through computer.

The biggest problem in Wi-Fi is range. The range of a Wi-Fi is just 50-70 meters aways ( inside the buildings ). The signals should be stronger to provide largeconnectabele spaces. Also, some of the wireless adapters work on the the frequencies that are currently used as many other wireless devices. This can cause serious interference, so the connection performance can be quite poor.

However, building Wi-Fi network is often the cheapest way for desired connection with the surroundings. You dont need to adjust the wires and the installation time is less than you have imagined. The hardware used for Wi-Fi ( wireless adapter ) is decreasing almost everyday now. Most of the Wi-Fi adapters have user-friendly configuration and daignostic tool which makes it easy to adjust or chage your WLAN settings or even do any thing for you.
